Excitement
It's a Monday. And Mondays are tough; well, sometimes they can be. But this is the first Monday I've worked since the holidays. Most all of the clients were back from their holiday break and/or recuperating from a cold or flu. To me, it was a pretty exciting (as in "manic") Monday.
First off, I was placed in a "in-promptu" class my managers wanted to try out called "Public Safety". I was chosen to be the first teacher to teach this class (every three months we rotate classes). I got into work and saw "Becky-----"public safety class". I'm thinking "ooookay, it'd been nice to give me a WARNING like last week so I can prepare this class." I decided to just go with the flow since I knew the group of clients I had were very talkative and can adjust to just about anything. So basically, I just talked about a broad overview of what public safety is, how we can stay safe, what kinds of people are out there to help us, etc etc. Next week........I'll be prepared!! Then later at the end of class, two other clients bursted into tears complaining they didn't feel good at all. Phone calls were made, but no success for about 30 min. So trying to keep these clients calm, passing out medication, feeding clients, helping them warm food up, etc etc, my two other homeroom teachers and I were besides ourselves, but thankfully everything came into order. THEN........
........ during lunch (as we are trying to do a zillion things), the company for which I work for were part of a collision. Apparently, this lady's car's breaks wasn't malfunctioning and she couldn't stop the car. I guess as she was driving on Hydraulic Rd, she decided to turn her car RIGHT INTO OUR FENCE!! Needless to say, the fence is broken, and the wooden flower boxes got tipped over, but thankfully no one was injured! The car slide down the small hill, into the fence and wood flower box and stopped. It was probably no more than 10 feet away from the building! The lady had two kids in the car, both properly secure in the car seat and booster seat. I didn't actually see the crash, but I heard something. All the clients, teachers, and directors ran to our big window to see what has gone on. We had to file an incident report with the police as well. Only the firetruck and police came. Thankfully, it didn't crash into the building. One of the clients told me "wow, the public safety class came in handy today!" I started to laugh and say to myself "I LOVE MY JOB!!" Which, I really do, but as all of us can testified, no matter how much we love the job, there still is much stress!!! :) One of the clients absolutely LOVES fire trucks for some reason, so I guess he was happy to see the firetruck.
....too bad I didn't have my digital camera with me or I would have taken a picture to show you all the "dented" fence!
