A FULL Life=Busy Life
It's only March 4, 2009 guys----and I have probably seen more doctors than I have last year! I'm a bit frustrated, scared, worried, and just have a lot of anticipation awaiting me.
So since January I have seen my reconstructive surgeon, my ophthalmologist, my dentist who referred me to an endontist, who has referred me to my oral surgeon (long story, but if my dentist listened to me at first I didn't have to see the endontist!), and I've seen my orthopedic doctor who now is running loads of test which means referral to a neurologist who specializes in carpal tunnel pain sydrome. Tired yet? There's more----I have to go for Physical Therapy now. And oh, I have to see my orthopedic the end of the month and then in May is a follow-up w/ my reconstructive surgeoon for talking about possible surgery in the summer. Whew....I'm tired just thinking and writing about it!
So for the 8 years, I have shoulder problems, mainly due to an accident (I fell) in 2001; I decided that I didn't really want surgery then, but 2 yrs later decided that my right shoulder was too painful and my doctor (at that time, Dr. Feltham) decided that I need surgery because of a tear. My left shoulder hurt as well then but not nearly as bad as the right. So long story short, in 2004 I had shoulder surgery, 2006 I had knee surgery due to cartilege tear; during all this my LEFT shoulder was still in pain, but I was trying to weigh it out., Well, over the past year (meaning 2008) the pain in my shoulder was intensifying, especially during the past 8 months. and the pain was shooting to my fingers making it tingle. I kept putting off to see the doctor because I really didn't want to. Anyhow, after much bugging from my sweet mother, I finally decided to call for an appointment in JANUAARY. He couldn't see me until today----March 4!! Anyhow, that's the background information (not a way of complaing just setting the backgound). So today, Dr. Hendron, my orthopedic doctor ran some strength test on my shoulder. Good news is that I passed the strength test which means I don't have a tear. The bad news is that he saw in the xrays and other tests (tapping on certian places in my shoulder and hand). Well, he concluded 2 things: 1. that I have an impinged nerve on my shoulder and neck, and 2. that I possibly have carpal tunnel, which he said can cause pain to the shoulders too (He said normally pain will go down, from shoulder to hands, but sometimes it can go from hands to shoulder) He thinks that the impindged nerve on my neck/shoulder is also contributing to my pain; so he referred me to get tested for carpal tunnel (he told me the procedure invovles sending electrical impulses up and down your arm and see how react---NO FUN!! Mom said she had it done once it it hurt! oh my..........); I also have to go for a phyiscal therapy evaluation on the 16th. He hopes that PT will help my impinged nerves, and he did warn me that impinged nerves can lead to a tear, but he thinks if I'm faithful with the PT exercises and going to PT I should be fine.
Please pray for all this. I'm getting anxious with my upcoming doctor appointments (Dr. Duputy for my carpal tunnel and Dr. Hoard for my mouth; worried about my follow up w/ Dr. Hendron bc/ I wonder if I do need surgery for carpal tunnel); but I'm more worried about time off from work. I need off on the 9th, 16th, and 27th; not including appointments for carpal tunnel. I pray my bosses will be understanding--so far they have been; but I'm a bit nervous to talk to them tomorrow.
Thanks friends!!
