Road to Recovery
My surgery was on Tuesday. I had to go in around 9:15. I didn't wait long in the waiting room before they called me back to prep me for surgery. I was able to see my doctors before the surgery which in some ways is unusual. Apparently, the hospital now requires the doctors to come in a "see" the patient and draw on the patient to mark where the operating site is.
The nurse who prepped me for surgery was extremely nice. Although I HATE HATE HATE needles for IVs, she do a phenomenal job in finding a good vein and sticking me. Around 10:15 or 10:30, they walked me (yes I WALKED) into the OR and jumped up on the table, where I then proceeded to freeze to death. Brrrr!!! They hooked me up w/ all sorts monitors and such as expected. They also gave me kinda like a warming blanket---it wasn't a blanket per say, but it it was kinda a thin plastic cover that hooks up at the end and blows warm air, so I was nice and toasty. Soon after, I saw my oral surgeon in the OR, but it was during the time I was drifting into sleep.
The surgery went well and they did most of what they wanted to do. I was able to go home the same day (praise God) around 4:30pm. When I got home and the day after (Wednesday) I was in extreme pain. The Vicodin wasn't doing its job so I called my doctor and he gave me another script for a stronger pain med (Percocet). Apparently, you can't call in Percocet over the phone to the pharmacy, but Dr. Gampper's nurse was so sweet and agreed to meet my Dad outside the hospital main entrance to hand him the script. So after getting that filled, my pain was better then it had been. I'm still hurting a lot, but it's expected. Since most of the surgery was on my face and inside my mouth, talking and eating irritates it a lot. I can't eat much, just soft soft soft foods and I've been drinking fluids a lot. My ear hurts too but not nearly as much as my mouth; I can feel the sweelling and the tightness. So other than pain, I'm doing okay. Amazingly this time around, I haven't experienced as much nausea as I had in the past with surgery. PRAISE GOD! I'm just resting a lot and sleeping a lot. I am able to sit up for a little and do some computer stuff which is nice. (Thank God for laptops!) I was able to set up my computer for mom to use so she can video chat with my nieces. It was fun to see them "online"
My post op is Monday--not sure if the stitches will come out that day or not. Hopefully I can get back to the grind of things by the 22nd. I just need time to heal and be pain free.
