GI Update

Today I had a follow up visit with my GI doctor, Dr. Cerefice after 7 months.

Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers as I went to the GI doctor today. First off, I am still seeing my usual fellow doctor GI doctor Dr. Cerefice, but I got transferred to a different "head"/ attending doctor. His name is Dr. Powell and I found out today from his nurse that he the number ONE GI doctor in the nation!

I talked to Dr. Cerefice today and told him that my medication he put me on, Domperidone seemed to work some--by that I told him I can see some difference in taking it and not taking it. Because of this, both Dr. Cerefice and Dr. Powell think that there is more to my stomach issues than gastroperesis (emptying problems with the stomach to the intestines). They believe that my stomach has muscle issues in that it does not expand and contact as it is suppose to while eating or drinking. OR it expands/contracts too late after eating/drinking (explaining pain much later after I eat). Therefore, I'm on a new medication Donnatal to help with stomach muscles. It is also a analgesic, so hopefully it will also help with the pain. As far as why I'm having pain in different areas in my stomach, they both said that the stomach is complex and that pain can be anywhere even if the problem is underlies in a specific area. They also were not surprised when I told them whenever I get sick, my stomach issues seemed to get worse, and they said that virus, bugs, bacteria, etc will affect the stomach more and since I have stomach issues already, times when I'm sick just compounds the problem even more. Both doctors are also talking about other treatment options (such as other medicine therapy); but is trying out one thing at a time. My next follow up with them both is March 19th. Between now and then, I'm to keep a diary of how I am feeling and the affects of the new medication for the next 2 weeks and give him a call. As for now, I continue on medicine and I MUST stick to my 6 small meals/day per doctor's order!

I underwent a bunch of blood tests as well to check various chemical levels in my body. That in itself was not a fun experience (they had to poke me several times before getting a good vein and you know how much I dislike needles!!)

I also have to undergo another colonoscopy (ugh!!) soon. I haven't gotten the date yet, but will let you know once I get the date. They just want to make sure no new thing has develop since the one I had in 2005. The main concern is that my normal tumors is not growing in my stomach or my intestine, which can prove a problem.

thanks again for the prayers and concerns. I will keep all updated as I know myself what is going on.

I'm so glad you are hooked up with a reportedly good doctor! If anybody needs the very best doctor in the world, you do. I'm so glad there's hope for new treatments to try. I really feel for you with the stomach issues. I've never had anything on this scale, but I've had stomach problems from time to time. I'll keep praying.
