Recuperation
I had surgery this past Thursday, March 17. It's one of those never ending surgeries I go through to take out some of the neurofibroma (NF). I've gone through hundreds of surgery (literally!) since I was a child--no, since I was a baby. It doesn't get any easier. The older I get I find it harder and harder to recuperate and get my energy back.
Dr Gampper revised my scar on my right side of my face because it was pulling downward and becoming very uncomfortable. He also removed some NF that was developing underneath my ear. They were suppose to open my nasal passage but they didn't do it this time and I'm not too sure why. My surgery was about 2 hrs long. I got wheeled into the OR around 2:30 and woke up in the recovery room around 6:30. I got released to go home the same day and got home around 9pm.
Recovery is going well so far even though I'm in a lot of pain. It hurts to move my mouth (whether it is talking or eating). I've been eating a very very soft diet which helps my not moving my mouth so much. Also I can only eat small bites at a time because my right side is swollen that I can't open my mouth very wide. Sometimes it's hard to just put a teaspoon in my mouth! For the most part, eating is not the roughest thing for me to do. I'm still very exhausted and have very little energy. I take my pain meds every 5 hrs just so that the pain won't be too unbearable. The nights are really rough because I can't find a comfortable position for my head w/o my feeling the "stretch" to my neck area (where the NF was taken). It hurts when it's stretched. Then it's uncomfortable to lean my head to the right because the pressure to lay on it hurts. So, I've been sleeping upright on the sofa/recliner. I have my post op visit with my doctor on the 28th to get my stitches removed.
Along with the post-op pain I'm continuing to struggle with my stomach pain and flare ups. With the pain in my mouth and stomach, I've been eating extremely small portions of food in a setting. The pain in my stomach is still there and along with my post op pain I have pain in my stomach. I'm continuing to try to cope with the pain and get through the day; but it is a whole lot rougher when I'm recuperating from surgery.
So, I continue to recuperate; I continue to cope with my stomach pain; I continue to follow my dietary guidelines given to my by my GI doctor......and I continue to rely and lean on my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please continue to pray as I recuperate from the surgery. Please pray for restful nights--nights that I can sleep through w/o waking up to extreme post-op pain. Thanks to all who has and continue to pray for me!
