ENT appoinment and other such news......

Almost every time I go to UVA Hospital, no matter what the appointment is for, I come home extremely exhausted. Today was no exception, except my chronic pain hit it's all time high.

Since before Christmas, I have been on three antibiotics to try to get rid of whatever my sinuses was holding on to. I've never felt completely better even after each regime of antibiotics. Three weeks ago, I called the UVA ENT clinic and they couldn't get me in until today. *sigh* The chronic pain / nausea along with my more labor intensive breathing due to sinus congestion has made the past 3 months go slow and hard.....but especially the past 3 weeks has been very trying. I've been trying to do everything I can to help me feel more comfortable but getting now where. It's tough.

I was half expecting my new Sinus ENT doctor, Dr. Payne, to examine me and say "we can't do anything due to the anatomy of your sinus)." I already knew that was going to come as that was the answer with my last visit 3 yrs ago (that time, it was Dr. Parks). Surgery is not a good options just because with my other physical difficulties and abnormalities, the doctors said the surgery and recovery would be more painful in the long run that to cope with sinus infections after sinus infections. Well, Dr. Payne didn't mention much about the nasal / sinus anatomy I was born with. He did use a scope to look all the way up my nose (A---CHOOO!!!!). He didn't find any remaining "infection" per say but he did see A LOT of inflammation, which could turn into an infection, if not treated. So the treatment is to use use a nasal rinse once a day as well as using a steroid nasal medication. If it doesn't clear up by next week, I am to call him and get into see him again; however, he seemed pretty confident that the inflammation will go down and that will stop the onset of another infection. He HOPES that with continuous use of the nasal "cleaning" rinse and the steroid medication, my chances of getting sinus infections would decrease......He's not promising, but these steps are good ways to reduce inflammation which is what causes the start of sinus infections. He also explained that due to the anatomy of my sinuses and nose, infections of my sinuses and ears are to be expected but with the treatments, hopefully it won't be so bad or last so long that requires weeks of antibiotics.

Please continue to pray for me as I daily deal with nausea/pain...... it gets worse whenever my activity is too long (at one time) or I'm out for more than 2 or so hours (also depends on how well I sleep the night before) Please pray this nasal rinse and steroid nasal medication will do the trick to calm things down and lessen the frequency and intensity of my sinuses infections. I have several more UVA appointments coming up in the next couple months; I'll be sure to keep everyone "in the loop"

I'm so glad you got to see this doctor, and it seems he's got an idea that gives a lot of hope. I really hope you feel better soon, Becky. I pray for you. I cannot imagine living the life you are, and you are just an amazing picture of God's grace. Keep leaning on Him!
