Physical Therapy update 1.
Physical Therapy. My neurologist prescribed this for me in hopes that it will help my neck pain as well as the back of my head pain. My neurologist calls it a different form of tension headaches, not the same kind one would get that would be relieved from taking and Ibuprofen or Tylenol. It is one that is caused by what he thinks a lot of neck spasms that is shoot up to the head. Sometimes I think my pain in the more "back" of the head pain more than pain from the neck.
I think, I've been to about 6 rounds of PT so far. I've felt maybe a little relief in my neck but really none in my head :( so far which is discouraging. My therapist and my therapist aide has been encouraging and telling me that it will take time and has been really encouraging me to continue exercises at home. The massage therapy at PT place at Augusta Health Lifetime Center really feels good during PT days, and believe it or not, I do look forward to PT days (which some people don't look forward to). My PTA, made me a mock massager out of tennis balls, which helps on days I don't have PT. I'm grateful for both of my PT and PTA. The fun thing is that I somewhat know my PTA before she was my PTA. I used to work in the day care her daughter attends. So during therapy it's nice to talk about things we can relate to and there is that instant connection.
So, I'm scheduled for therapy throughout the month of September for twice a week. I'm hoping.....rather praying, I should say; this month of PT would work and help release the muscle tightness, but most importantly help these constant head pains. The head pains aren't good, friends. At times, it has interfered a lot with my daily living and at some times (along with my other chronic illnesses and pain), prevented me from doing and planning things. Lately, I have found myself unable to walk a lot or even driving too long of a distances without feeling extremely fatigue or hurting. I was sharing with my PT last week that evening driving, at times, hurts my head when I'm trying to change lanes, so I have found myself at times, taking local roads, just to avoid lane changes!
Walking and doing simple chores like grocery shopping takes more out of me lately (with my usual chronic pain and head/neck pain) that I need more rests than usual. It's been very discouraging and challenging for my heart.
This Saturday, My best friend and I will head to Charleston, WVa to hear Beth Moore speak. There won't be any walking or anything physical involvement. There will just be a day of hearing her speak about God. We both have been looking forward for this for a very very long time. It will be a time of relaxation for the mind AND body, but more importantly for the soul. We look forward to sharing this time with you all. The next time you hear from me, I hope to share with you about our conference in WVa.
