Reflections on this Quarantine 2020

We’ve been in this COVID-19 quarantine for a month now.   Well, for me it’s been a bit longer because of my low immune system (auto-immune disease) and history of respiratory distress.  I’ve not been out of the house except for a walk around the block once or twice during the beginning of March. I am quite honestly about to go stir crazy. My parents do the grocery run as well as my necessary errands and pharmacy pick-ups.  My medical team stresses the importance of this precaution and quarantine.  It’s necessary. It’s important.  I get it; and I understand it.   Through this I’m realizing something far greater than taking precautions to try to keep myself healthy and out of danger….

These past weeks, I have really enjoyed seeing the beauty of God’s Creation as Spring is slowly unfolding.  The warmth and fresh (and not so fresh at times) smells that spring brings.  I love seeing all the flowers come back to life or new flowers being planted; I love seeing the trees come back to life baring beautiful flowers or leaves. I’m most excited to be starting the vegetable garden.  I hear different kinds of birds chirping, squirrels and rabbits running across the lawn, etc.   If you live near the Wildlife Center and the woods like I do, sometimes you can see deer, bears and coyotes. There is a horse farm about 6 houses down from where I live.  There is also a field that stretches all the way behind the neighborhood houses and in the Spring through early Fall, the horses are outside in that field.   One of the things I love to see is watch the horses graze the field when they are right near the borderline of our property.  It’s just something I find soothing and comforting.   The beauty of everything this year is breathtaking.  I’m noticing things in God’s creation more and more.  I stop. I thank God for taking care of His Creation—His World—His People.

You see, it’s not that I didn’t see all of God’s creation before…. We live in God’s creation, so I know we all notice God’s creation and the beauty it attains no matter what is going on around us.  Yes. I’ve always appreciated all the beauty for what it is and what it does for my emotional, personal, and yes even spiritual self; but so often we (I) are so preoccupied with other things in life (work, school, chores, life ) that we don’t make time to STOP and reflect on the goodness and the beauty of God’s creation and WHY He created it for us.   < please note: Don’t get me wrong, I do pray for those who find themselves without of job for the time being and I do understand the worries that goes with that . I was unemployed for 6 months and without insurance many years ago, so I know how it feels>   Even during these tumultuous time, I realize that the need to seek God in everything and thank Him for what we have now—which is another day of life, another day to enjoy a  world that He controls and has power over.  He commands everything and because He has the power over animals, plants, and flowers, He definitely has power and dominion over us as well; He will lead His children to safety through these hard times.   He will always be with His Children.

As I sit in my chair staring out the open window embracing and reflecting on beauty of God’s creation.  I remind myself that God is taking care of His creation which functions at His command.  Even throughout this pandemic, God is in control. He’s powerful…. More powerful than anything.

Therefore,  “I Sing the Mighty Power of God”

1.      I sing the mighty pow’r of God, that made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at His command, and all the stars obey.

2.      I sing the goodness of the Lord, who filled the earth with food,
Who formed the creatures through the Word, and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed, where’er I turn my eye,
If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky.

3.      There’s not a plant or flow’r below, but makes Thy glories known,
And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from Thy throne;
While all that borrows life from Thee is ever in Thy care;
And everywhere that we can be, Thou, God, art present there.
